2025 Vintage: abundant water, modest yields, and a vineyard reborn

The 2025 vintage stands out for a striking contrast: after two years of severe drought, the vineyard experienced an exceptional recovery thanks to abundant rainfall, even though yields remained moderate.

Autumn rains (216 L) and spring precipitation (200 L) allowed the soils to accumulate nearly 600 litres of water throughout the season. This reserve boosted vigorous vegetative growth, creating a dense canopy that protected the fruit during the intense summer heatwaves, with temperatures reaching nearly 40 °C and nighttime lows above 20 °C.

This combination of moisture and high temperatures accelerated ripening, resulting in an earlier harvest, carried out between 12 August and 12 September under excellent sanitary conditions and without rain-related complications.

Despite the favourable water availability, yields were modest, particularly for the garnatxa varieties. Short pruning, necessary after the low vine vigour observed the previous year, combined with poor fruit set, limited production. In contrast, carinyena and syrah performed very well, with syrah showing a little higher yields than the previous years.

From a sanitary perspective, the vineyards remained in excellent condition. Minor presence of Lobesia was detected in some parcels with abundant vegetation, but it caused no significant issues, and the harvest unfolded calmly and without any botrytis pressure.

In summary, the 2025 vintage is defined by strong vine recovery, moderate yields, and exceptional fruit health, promising wines that are balanced, fresh, and deeply expressive of the Terra Alta’s unique character.
