LA Serra Blanc distinguished as Vi de Finca

Our most precious Garnatxa Blanca at the top of Catalan wines

La Serra Blanc from Herència Altés has been recognized as a Vi de Finca, the highest accolade for Catalan wine.

We are proud to receive the recognition Vi de Finca for La Serra Blanc, the first monovarietal of Garnatxa Blanca to achieve such a status, as it reflects the values that define Herència Altés: effort, perseverance, and a commitment to quality over quantity.

Vi de Finca is a title that distinguishes, in addition to the unique and climatic characteristics of the vineyard, the fact that the grapes are sourced from a single vineyard which is subject to more demanding protocols from the DO in terms of production and yields. The wines awarded this distinction must also have received recognition and prestige both nationally and internationally over at least ten years. Furthermore, it is a very exclusive prestige since there are only 19 Vins de Finca in the whole of Catalunya.

La Serra estate
, which has centennial Garnatxa Blanca vineyards, is located between Batea and Gandesa, at 420- 450 m asl. Influenced by the Garbí and Mistral winds, the old vines survive with low rainfall and offer very low yields (between 0.5 and 1 kg of grapes per vine) that result in a wine with a lot of concentration, character and freshness.

La Serra Blanc wine is made from these very old vineyards. A manual harvest is carried out in small 18Kg boxes with careful selection in the vineyard. The grapes are transferred to the winery where they spend about 24-48 hours in a cold room at 3-5ºC before being pressed with whole bunches to limit the extraction of polyphenols. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeast in concrete tanks with subsequent bâttonages of the fine lees for 3 months to achieve greater creaminess in the mouth. Aged for 12 months in a 2500L Austrian oak foudre (depending on the vintages and production, there may also be a portion aged in a 600L Austrian oak barrel and/or in a 600L ceramic amphora).

A fresh wine, with a creamy and elegant mouthfeel that stoically endures the passage of
time, as do the vines.
